• Actos - Actos® is a drug prescribed to treat Type 2 Diabetes. It is taken once daily and controls blood sugar levels by increasing the body's sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which helps cells use blood sugar for energy.

• DePuy Hip Replacement Recall - Johnson & Johnson's artificial hip replacement company DePuy Orthopedics, Inc. has issued a recall of two hip replacement products because of higher failure rates that necessitated second surgeries.

• Diabetes Drugs Causing Thyroid and Pancreatic Cancer - Studies and reports have shown that Byetta, Victoza, Januvia, Onglyza and Tradjenta may cause an increased risk of pancreatic cancer or thyroid cancer and other serious adverse drug events.

• Dietary Supplements Causing Liver Damage - Nearly half of Americans use dietary supplements in hopes of losing weight, building muscles and preventing anything from colds to chronic illnesses. Americans spend approximately $32 billion a year on herbal supplements. Unfortunately, using some herbal products can lead to serious harm and even death.

• DMAA Products - The Army is investigating several dietary supplements – including Jack3d and OxyELITE Pro – after two U.S. soldiers died from heart attacks during fitness exercises. The Defense Department removed these and all the products listed containing the same active ingredient – DMAA – from all military bases. It is unclear at this point what action the FDA will take.

• IVC Filter - An IVC filter is a medical device, also known as an inferior vena cava filter, that is implanted by a surgeon to protect patients from dangerous blood clots. The device is supposed to stop the blood clot from reaching vital organs.

• Lipitor - The attorneys at Bohrer Brady, LLC are pursuing claims on behalf of women against Pfizer, the manufacturer of the popular cholesterol-lowering statin drug Lipitor (Atorvastatin). The suits allege that Lipitor either caused or contributed to the women developing type 2 diabetes. Several recent studies have linked Lipitor and other cholesterol lowering statin drugs to an increased risk of diabetes, particularly in middle-aged and elderly women.

• Low T or Low Testosterone - The manufacturers of testosterone drugs are being sued throughout the country for injuries related to their products. The lawsuits allege that testosterone, sometimes referred to as “Low-T” products, such as AndroGel, Androderm, Testopel, Axiron, Delatestryl, Depo-Testosterone, Fortesta, Straint and Testim, can cause heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism and death.

• Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft - The Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft is a medical device used during spinal surgery to stimulate bone growth and replace damaged discs in the spine. The FDA only approved the Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft for anterior lumbar fusions. An anterior lumbar fusion requires the surgeon to make an incision through the abdomen in the front of the body.

• Metal-on-Metal Hip Implants - Metal-on-metal hip implants have proven, in many cases, to be ineffective and dangerous. The implants are failing at unexpected rates, causing patients to endure additional surgeries to remove and replace the implant. Furthermore, metal particles from these implants can break apart and be introduced into the soft tissue surrounding the hip joint, causing a wide range of medical problems.

• Mirena IUD Injuries - The Mirena® intrauterine device (IUD) is a T-shaped birth control product meant to be inserted into the uterus for up to five years at a time. The product prevents pregnancy by slowly releasing a hormone that helps prevent egg fertilization by thickening cervical mucus while also thinning the uterine lining and partially suppressing ovulation. Mirena also is approved to treat heavy menstrual bleeding.

• Morcellator - Power morcellators are medical devices that are used during laparoscopic or robotic procedures such as hysterectomies and myomectomies. Morcellators are used to cut uterine tissue, including uterine fibroids, as part of a less invasive procedure for removal of tissue.

• NaturLyte® and GranuFlo® Linked to Cardiac Arrest and Sudden Cardiac Death - Fresenius operates kidney dialysis centers across the United States and is the leading supplier of kidney dialysis machines and disposable kidney dialysis products. In addition, Fresenius supplies products used in kidney dialysis to dialysis centers operated by other companies.

• Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa - The drugs that are supposed to relieve depression in patients sometimes actually worsen the depression and cause suicidal thoughts, especially in children and young adults. Some antidepressants have even been linked to violent behavior. Antidepressant medications can also cause problems such as injuries to fetuses, liver failure, and other physical complications.

• Recalls - A drug recall is an action that removes a drug from the marketplace. Drug recalls can be initiated by FDA order or request, or by the pharmaceutical company itself. A drug recall is a drastic measure, a result of evidence that a drug is extremely harmful, even fatal.

• Risperdal and Gynecomastia - Risperdal is an anti-psychotic drug manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. The generic version of Risperdal is risperidone. Other drugs, such as Invega and Risperdal Consta are also considered Risperdal. Risperdal is usually prescribed to patients to treat schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, autism, and other psychiatric conditions.

• Stryker Hip Recall and Settlement - Stryker® Orthopaedics has voluntarily recalled its Rejuvenate modular and ABG-II modular-neck hip stem implants, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Stryker® indicates that fretting and corrosion (wear and tear) can occur within the devices, which can cause adverse tissue reactions and pain and swelling in certain individuals.

• Talcum Powder - Talcum powder is a common ingredient found in products such as Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder and Shower to Shower. According to the American Cancer Society, continuous use of talcum powder near the genital region can increase the risk of ovarian cancer by 30-40% . If you or a loved one has used talcum powder once a day for four years or twice a day for two years and have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, you may be entitled to a compensation.

• Topamax - On March 4, 2011, the FDA noted in its advisory letter that women who are pregnant should avoid taking Topamax (Topiramate) and its generic equivalents. Topamax is generally prescribed to women who have epilepsy as an anticonvulsant.

• Transvaginal Mesh Failure - Many women who suffer pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI), medical conditions that occur when the internal support structure of the vagina fails, undergo a surgical procedure in which a transvaginal mesh (TVM) is inserted to help hold the woman's internal organs in place. Rather than simply stitching tissue of the vaginal wall together, the transvaginal mesh is used to keep the organs - namely the urethra, cervix, and rectum-from falling out of place and "sagging" inside the body cavity.

• Xarelto - The blood thinner Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was approved in 2011. It is manufactured by Bayer and marketed by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

• Yaz - The birth control pill Yaz (full name Yasmine) has become one of the most popular methods for oral contraception amongst women in the United States. Unfortunately, many of these women selected this particular birth control pill because of misleading advertising, and in some contexts, false advertising.

• Zimmer Knee Replacement - If you have a Zimmer Persona Trabecular Metal Tibal knee implant, you may be entitled to money damages. The largest knee implant maker in the world, Zimmer, recently issued a recall of its Persona knee implants.

• Zimmer NexGen Knee Replacement - The Zimmer NexGen knee replacement has been linked to a number of problems, including significant pain, loosening of the knee implant and implant failure requiring additional surgeries.

• Zofran - Zofran (ondansetron) was approved by the FDA in 1991 for use as an anti-nausea drug by cancer patients. The FDA did not approve Zofran for treatment of morning sickness during pregnancy. Zofran was made by GlaxoSmithKline who promoted Zofran for use by pregnant women to treat nausea. This is known as an “off-label” use.
