Risperdal is an anti-psychotic drug manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. The generic version of Risperdal is risperidone. Other drugs, such as Invega and Risperdal Consta are also considered Risperdal. Risperdal was first approved for use in 1993. A generic version of Risperdal, known as risperidone, came to market in 2008. Risperdal was prescribed both to adults and adolescents, as well as children as young as five years of age. Risperdal is connected with various serious side effects including gynecomastia.
Gynecomastia is a medical condition describing the growth of breasts in males. Symptoms not only include growth of breast tissue, but also may include soreness, pain, and discharge. Several scientific studies have linked Risperdal use with the development of gynecomastia in males, including young and adolescent males. Gynecomastia also may result in elevated prolactin levels.

In February 2015, a jury in Philadelphia rendered a verdict of $2.5 million dollars in favor of a 20 year old autistic Risperdal user who developed breasts as a young teenager finding that the company failed to adequately warn about the potential side effects from Risperdal. In 2013, Johnson & Johnson paid $2.2 billion dollars to settle Federal and State criminal and civil charges related to illegal marketing of Risperdal.
