Low T or Low Testosterone

The manufacturers of testosterone drugs are being sued throughout the country for injuries related to their products. The lawsuits allege that testosterone, sometimes referred to as “Low-T” products, such as AndroGel, Androderm, Testopel, Axiron, Delatestryl, Depo-Testosterone, Fortesta, Straint and Testim, can cause heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism and death. Testosterone drugs, which are available in gels, patches, pellets and injections, have recently been linked to increased risks of these side effects in men who are healthy or have a prior heart condition. For example, a 2013 study found a higher frequency of heart complications and death in men who had coronary artery disease. Also, a 2014 study found that testosterone therapy increased the risk of heart attack and stroke in men age 65 and older, and younger men with a history of heart disease. These injuries are believed to be caused by the increased production of red blood cells which leads to thickening of the blood and blood clots.

As a result of these studies and other concerns, the United States Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) has recently required testosterone manufacturers to include stroke and heart attack warnings with their products.

  • Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) have been reported in patients using testosterone products. Evaluate patients with signs or symptoms consistent with DVT or PE.
  • Some postmarketing studies have shown an increased risk of myocardial infarction and stroke associated with the use of testosterone replacement therapy.

The FDA is also requiring the testosterone manufacturers to change their labeling to clarify the approved uses of the products, and clarify that the safety and efficacy of use for age-related hypogonadism have not been established.

Due to the fact that testosterone manufacturers did not previously warn about these potential fatal side effects, users that have suffered a heart, stroke, DVT, VTE or PE may be entitled to money damages.

If you or a loved one used a testosterone product and suffered a side effect including heart attack, stroke, PE, DVT or VTE, call Bohrer Brady, LLC, at 1-800-876-3911, or email us for a free, confidential initial consultation.
