Xarelto

Xarelto Can Cause Uncontrolled Bleeding

The blood thinner Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was approved in 2011. It is manufactured by Bayer and marketed by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Although excessive bleeding is a common side effect of anticoagulants, it has been reported that Xarelto carries a higher risk of life-threatening internal and gastrointestinal bleeds since there is no antidote like other traditional blood thinners. Less than a year after its release, at least 350 serious, disabling or fatal injuries were reported to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) according to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices.

The attorneys at Bohrer Brady, LLC are pursuing Xarelto injury claims against the manufacturer and marketers of Xarelto for defective design of the drug and failing to warn Xarelto patients that they had a serious risk of bleeding complications. The plaintiffs have alleged that Bayer and Janssen marketed and promoted Xarelto as a superior product when compared to other anticoagulants including warfarin, even though the companies knew that Xarelto patients were at a higher risk of life-threatening internal and gastrointestinal bleeds. The plaintiffs also claim Bayer and Janssen failed to warn patients of the serious complications associated with Xarelto use, and that the companies failed to advise doctors on how to treat patients if such complications arose. These acts and omissions were directly related to Bayer and Janssen placing company profits over the health of Xarelto patients. Xarelto lawsuits seek to recover damages for medical expenses, physical and mental pain and suffering, funeral expenses, economic losses and treble and/or punitive damages.
